Alma-Tademaは、1860年代半ばに、古代エジプトで設定された被写体の数を描き、考古学的精度と不快な生活様式を説得し、遠くの過去が生き生き残るように見えました。 この手法は、中東と歴史の主題で現代的な生活の描写を両方専門とするジャン・レオン・ジェロメなどのオリニスト画家のことを並列化した。 その後、アルマ・テーデマは、古代ローマのシーンを専門としています。
