Wilhelm Camphausen(1818-1885) wurde vor allem duch seine großformatigen Reiterporträts vom Großen Kurfürsten, Friedrich dem Großen und Kaiser Wilhelm I. populär. Das Brustbild Friedrichs ist eine ernergische Interpretation des Königs, dem berühmteren großen Reiterbild König Friedrichs II., das ihn umgeben von seinen Generälen zu Pferde zeigt, wiederholt.
