Founded as a theological school in 1866, Howard was chartered as a university a year later. The faculty has included significant leaders, such as Alain Locke, Dorothy Porter, Franklin Frazier, Dr. W. Montague Cobb, and Ernest Everett Just, among many others. “Old Main” was taken down in 1940 to make way for the present main library.Place: 500 Howard Place, NW, Howard University, Washington, District of Columbia, United States
