Paul Helleu Sketching with his Wife,(1889) is an oil on canvas painting by the American artist John Singer Sargent. Paul César Helleu (17 Dec 1859 – 23 Mar 1927) was a French artist best known for his portraits of many of the most famous and beautiful women of his time including the Duchess of Marlborough, the Countess of Greffulhe, the Marchesa Casati and Belle da Costa Greene, librarian to J. P. Morgan and one of the sharpest and most powerful women buyers of her time. He became a close friend of John Singer Sargent, whom he met in Paris in 1878 when Paul was 18 years old and Sargent 22. This painting (26 1/8 x 32 1/8 in.) is now in the collection of the The Brooklyn Museum, New York.
