In 1967 I left for Angola, on a military service commission, during the colonial war (...). When I was confronted with that new continent, the cultural shock could not have been greater. However, after an initial disadaptation, a deep interest emerged in the knowledge of that new culture, even though it was far from my own, a western one, both in the ways I acted and in its concepts.
