The sculpture, dubbed “room memorial”, is an expressive symbol of Secessionism of the 19th century. Because of his liberal and open-minded views, Heinrich Heine had become one of the most widely-read German writers in the pre-March era, and was extremely popular in artistic circles. The bronze statuette by sculptor Theodor von Gosen is a memorial to him that was showcased in 1902 in an exhibition of the Berlin Secession and can be admired today in the permanent exhibition on art and culture of the 19th century.
