Sin Saimdang had talent for poetry, calligraphy and painting from an early age, she imitated the painting of An Gyeon when she was seven years old. These paintings featuring fine brush strokes and clear vivid colors are parts of a ten-panel folding screen. The grass, animals and insects depicted in the folding screen include watermelons, eggplants, poppies, hibiscus, cocks combs, princess feathers, day lilies, mice, long-headed grasshoppers, frogs, lizards, dragonflies, dung beetles, mantises and cicadas. The tenth panel includes a critique by O Sechang, calligrapher and art critic of the late 19th and early 20th century.
