Report to King Sejong by Sin Suk-ju upon His Return to Korea By the time of the publication of the Haedongjegukgi in the 15th century, the Ming and Joseon Dynasties had already been established, and international relations in East Asia were poised for a rebirth. Accordingly, Sin Suk-ju was sent to Japan as an official envoy in the 25th year of King Sejong’s reign (1443) to report on the Japanese domestic situation. Sin visited Kyoto via sea and land routes for about seven months, stopping by Tsushima Island to enter the “Treaty of Gyehae” and collect relevant documents before returning home.
