Irureta studied in Italy and subsequently Venice became one of the common motifs in his paintings. Most of his views of the city shows the influence of Martín Rico, with precise brush strokes and bright, colourful landscapes. In this, his last known Venetian picture, however, he favours a much more vaporous construction with subdued tones to describe a corner of the area of San Trovaso: in the foreground we see the structure of a shipyard for building and repairing gondolas, and behind it, the heavy volume of the church and tower of San Trovaso.Mikel Lertxundi GalianaInventory number: GFA-005365-001
