Dutch painter and graphic artist. Son of architect and sculptor Cornelis I Bloemaert (1540–1593). Trained in Utrecht with Joost de Beer (1515/1535–1593), 1581–1585 worked in Paris and Fontainebleau with Iehan Bassot, a ‘Maistre Herri’ and Hieronymus Francken, 1585–1591 active in Utrecht, 1591–1593 Amsterdam, 1594–1651 Utrecht. One of the most notable representatives of late Utrecht Mannerism, who later, in keeping with the spirit of the time, turned to baroque. Painted mythological and religious figural compositions and landscapes.
