Abraham Brueghel è registrato a Roma per la prima volta nel 1659, e la sua attività di pittore di vita è documentata almeno dal 1663/64.22 Eppure la sua prima estinta firmata e datata pittura, di una donna che prende frutto da una sporgenza, nel Musée du Louvre, Parigi, è del 1669.23L'attuale pittura dell'anno successivo è il secondo lavoro esistente dell'artista a portare una data. In contrasto con la pittura del Louvre, che ha una straordinaria esposizione di frutta, è restrittiva e modesta in ambizione; e mentre non c'è motivo di dubitare dell'autenticità della firma, è forse piuttosto hesitantly scritta e sembra ambiziosa per la portata dell'opera. Tuttavia, il dipinto è paragonabile a quello firmato e datato nell'anno successivo nella Galleria Sabauda, Torino, pubblicata da Hoogewerff.24Gregory Martin, 2022
