Questa sontuosa vita ancora mostra una ricca composizione posata su un tavolo ricoperto da un tappeto persiano e tra cui un piatto d'argento, un bicchiere di vino bianco, alcuni melograni, un coltello con un manico di onice, una ciotola di faïence Delft contenente pesche e un limone mezzopelato, un melone, un arazzo di pane e un'ostrica. Ma tutti questi oggetti, ricchi e suggestivi, sono sottoposti al passaggio del tempo, indicato dalla presenza di un orologio aperto. L’immagine fu dipinta nel 1660, quando lo stile fiammingo era visibile nell’opera di Beyeren. Le aiguière in metallo, in cui si riflettono gli oggetti e la silhouette dell’artista, sono caratteristiche dell’opera di Beyeren durante quel periodo.
