Questo acquerello atmosferico dimostra l’approccio radicalmente nuovo di Louis Buvelot alla rappresentazione del cespuglio australiano; un cumulo di alberi e scrub che prevalgono sull’espansivo panorama della Yarra Valley oltre. Buvelot è stato venerato dalla generazione più giovane di artisti che ha assunto il suo interesse per gli effetti temporali e stagionali e nel lavorare in plein air nei quartieri stabiliti intorno a Melbourne. L'impressionista australiano Tom Roberts ha detto che Buvelot 'ha portato il vero dipinto dell'Australia' e il suo lavoro è rimasto popolare durante i decenni successivi, quando altra arte coloniale era caduto da favore. Questo acquerello era in precedenza nella raccolta di Alfred Felton, la Galleria Nazionale del più grande benefattore di Victoria.
