Cette aquarelle atmosphérique démontre l'approche radicalement nouvelle de Louis Buvelot pour la représentation de la brousse australienne ; un tas d'arbres et de gommage qui ont préséance sur l'étendue de la vallée de Yarra au-delà. Buvelot fut vénéré par la jeune génération d'artistes qui s'intéressait aux effets temporels et saisonniers et à travailler en plein air dans les districts établis autour de Melbourne. L'impressionniste australien Tom Roberts a déclaré que Buvelot « a commencé la peinture réelle de l'Australie » et son travail est resté populaire au cours des décennies suivantes, lorsque d'autres art colonial avaient perdu sa faveur. Cette aquarelle faisait autrefois partie de la collection d'Alfred Felton, le plus grand bienfaiteur de la National Gallery of Victoria.
