Due mucche e i loro bovini si trovano nella bassa luce del sole vicino al fiume Merwede. Un cavaliere e' appena passato. In lontananza, possiamo vedere le rovine di Huis te Merwede, un po 'fuori la città di Dordrecht. Cuyp si è specializzata in questo tipo di paesaggio con animali bagnati in un caldo bagliore. Questo effetto di illuminazione è stato il marchio di artisti che hanno dipinto paesaggi italiani. Cuyp ha adottato la loro tecnica nei suoi paesaggi, che altrimenti sono inevitabilmente olandese.
