Dieses Familienporträt, das eine kontinuierliche Szene über drei Paneele zeigt, passt die Konventionen des Triptych-Altarstückes den neuen Forderungen der protestantischen Hingabe an. Sowohl der Maler als auch die Sitter sind heute unbekannt, aber die Kirche spiriert, die auf dem Orb in der Hand Christi reflektiert erscheinen, assoziiert sie mit der norddeutschen Stadt Hamburg. Christus Gegenwart inmitten dieser heimischen Versammlung spricht ein tief lutherisches Verständnis für die direkte Zugänglichkeit Christi zu Gläubigen.
