Als Spezialist für die Technik der Porträtmalerei wurde Dubois-Drahonet von der Familie Bourbon von Orleans beauftragt, neun Vollbild-Porträts ihrer Kinder zu erstellen. Die Kinder wurden aus der Ehe von Louis Philippe, zukünftigem König von Frankreich, und Maria Amalia von Bourbon, Prinzessin der zwei Sizilien und Tochter von Ferdinando I Bourbon geboren. Die Porträts wurden zwischen 1826 und 1828 ausgeführt.
