Come specialista nella tecnica della pittura ritratto, Dubois-Drahonet è stato commissionato dalla famiglia Bourbon di Orleans per creare nove ritratti a tutta lunghezza dei loro figli. I figli nacquero dal matrimonio di Luigi Filippo, futuro re di Francia, e Maria Amalia di Borbone, Principessa delle Due Sicilie e figlia di Ferdinando I Borbone. I ritratti furono eseguiti tra il 1826 e il 1828.
