La gioventù addormentata, forse destinata ad essere Endymion, è in una posizione reclinabile a metà strada tra sedersi e mentire. C'è un gioco qui tra il relax e il tipo di tensione fisica che potrebbe essere causato da un sogno. Contrazioni muscolari marcate conferiscono al corpo una plasticità dinamica. In ogni caso, la figura in terracotta era uno studio destinato solo a fini di officina. In modo affascinante, combina uno studio dettagliato dell'anatomia umana con il senso ben sviluppato di stile di un artista virtuoso. Verrocchio, il più importante scultore fiorentino della seconda metà del XV secolo, fu l'insegnante di Leonardo da Vinci.
