En 204 av. J.-C., les Romains amenèrent à Rome le culte de Cybèle, déesse orientale de la victoire, de Pessina, Asie Mineure. Mantegna a combiné les comptes d'Ovid, Livy et Appian. Cybele est représentée par sa pierre sacrée -
