Le fond sombre, la rotation du buste et le sourire imperceptible font de ce tableau une des meilleures interprétations du portrait de Leonardo, réinterprété à la lumière du classicisme du début du XVIe siècle. Dans ce portrait féminin, il y a un mélange intelligent de références aux modèles de portrait d'Antonello da Messina et de Perugino et aux innovations de Leonardo da Vinci
