Feuerbach, che è stato considerato membro del cosiddetto ‘Deutsch-Römer’ (un cerchio di artisti tedeschi a Roma), ha vissuto per molti anni a Roma e a Venezia. Ha perseguito l'obiettivo di fondere modelli classici greci e realisti per creare una forma ideale. Per due decenni, il figlio di un archeologo si preoccupava del tema dell’Ifiigenia, figlia del re che fu salvata dalla morte per sacrificio e da allora doveva vivere in esilio.
