Margareta de Vos war die Tochter eines Destillers und Schwester von drei Malern. In der Darstellung von Van Dyck hätte De Voss gleaming und stärkerer Mühlsteinkragen als ein markantes Zeichen des Wohlstands dienen können, während seine Veränderungen an der Zusammensetzung ihres Kopfes nun mit dem bloßen Auge sichtbar sind. Die Glasvase der Blumen im Portrait von De Vos stellt eine der virtuossten Passagen in allen Werken von Van Dyck dar, die mutige und unerschütterliche Hübe blauer und butteriger gelber Farbe in Reflexionen an der Oberfläche der Vase umwandeln.
