Un tumulo di burro cremoso e giallo si siede alla nostra sinistra del centro su un tavolo di legno su uno sfondo verde oliva in questo dipinto di vita orizzontale. Il panno bianco, presumibilmente l'involucro o la copertura, viene spinto giù intorno alla base del tumulo per esporre il mucchio di burro. La parte superiore del tumulo ha alcuni segni di gouge e solchi. Una lunga e stretta paddle in legno è bloccata verticalmente nel lato destro del tumulo, ed è sommersa quasi fino alla maniglia in burro. Due uova bianche riposano sul tavolo davanti al tessuto bianco, a destra del centro. Le spazzole sciolte sono visibili in tutto, quindi le frange di vernice sembrano quasi diventare il burro. L’artista ha firmato il dipinto con lettere nere nell’angolo in basso a sinistra: “A. Vollon”.
