Questa fotografia è una delle poche immagini che possono essere chiaramente assegnate ad Arnold Schönberg come fotografo sulla base della sua firma. Ha usato una semplice macchina fotografica Kodak; così i suoi limiti tecnici sono stati pronunciati – molte delle foto erano fuori fuoco o erroneamente esposti. Schönberg deve aver usato un supporto molto attentamente per i ritratti della moglie Mathilde all'interno dell'appartamento (Berlin Zehlendorf, Machnower Chaussee & Dietloffstraße, Villa Lepcke) per raggiungere il loro obiettivo relativamente tagliente.
