En 1874 Artur Heygate Mackmurdo ‘travelled to Italy with Ruskin’, algunos escritores han interpretado esto como él siendo guiado por los escritos de Ruskin, pero es más probable que fuera un asistente de Ruskin durante un viaje prolongado a la zona.
