Ignacy Jan Paderewski ha lavorato per promuovere la causa della sua patria per tutta la sua vita. Sfruttando i suoi numerosi contatti e la sua enorme popolarità, ha instancabilmente sostenuto il caso per ripristinare il diritto dei polacchi a un paese indipendente. Si dice che a causa delle azioni di Paderewski, l'8 gennaio 1918, nel suo discorso al Congresso, il presidente Woodrow Wilson ha consegnato i suoi 14 punti, di cui il numero 13 era più rilevante per Poles: “Si dovrebbe erigere uno stato polacco indipendente, che dovrebbe includere i territori abitati da popolazioni indiscutibilmente polacche, che dovrebbero essere garantiti un accesso libero e sicuro al mare, e la cui indipendenza politica ed economica e integrità territoriale dovrebbero essere garantiti dal patto internazionale.” Questo è stato il culmine di tutti gli sforzi e le azioni di Paderewski sul suolo americano.
