Chest-on-chests generalmente consiste di due set di cassetti impilati sopra l'un l'altro, con la parte superiore di solito più piccola. Il mogano in grana fine, importato dall'America Centrale o dalle Indie Occidentali; le maniglie in ottone lucido, si distinguono contro il legno rosso-marrone; e gli elaborati intagli segnano tutto lo stile Chippendale di questo petto-on-chest--uno stile che dominava arredi interni coloniali negli anni 1760 e 1770. Questo esempio particolarmente bello è attribuito al rinomato produttore di mobili Benjamin Frothingham, di Charlestown, Massachusetts. Frothingham servì nella guerra di indipendenza, guadagnando il rango di maggiore e facendo la conoscenza del generale George Washington. Washington visitò Frothingham a Charlestown nel 1789.
