Auguste Vacquerie war ein französischer Journalist und Briefmann. Er war von seinen frühesten Tagen ein Bewunderer von Victor Hugo, mit dem er durch die Ehe seines Bruders Charles mit Leopoldine Hugo verbunden war [Tochter von Victor Hugo]. Die Vacqerie-Brüder kamen aus einem prominenten Versandgeschäft. Er war einer der wichtigsten Mitarbeiter der Événement und folgte Hugo in sein Exil in Jersey. 1869 kehrte er nach Paris zurück und gründete mit Paul Meurice und anderen die Antiimperialzeitschrift Rappel.
