Sculptrice afro-américaine, Meta Fuller a créé l'émancipation pour célébrer le 50e anniversaire de la proclamation de l'émancipation. La sculpture allégorique représente des figures masculines et féminines qui émergent de l'arbre de la connaissance au centre de la sculpture. L'émancipation est maintenant exposée à Harriet Tubman Park à Boston. La sculpture est détenue conjointement avec le Musée du Centre national des artistes afro-américains.
