Selon la tradition, les Cent Pins (la grappe de grands arbres au centre de la peinture), a été utilisé comme un repère pour les navires entrant dans Charleston Harbor. Le thème du paysage, quelque peu inhabituel pour Charleston au début du XIXe siècle, est dépeint avec véhémence et Trouche a capturé une partie de la raillerie commune au Bas-Pays. Trouche
