Questa colorata ancora-vita del 1620 è la prima pittura conosciuta di Van der Ast, uno dei primi specialisti della vita. Un costoso piatto di porcellana cinese detiene quinces, melograno, albicocche e uva. Alcuni gusci esotici e un tulipano sono disposti sul tavolo. Van der Waal Ast ha scelto un punto di osservazione alto, in modo che stiamo guardando giù sul tavolo e possiamo vedere ogni oggetto chiaramente. Questa composizione era consuetudine per le nature morte dall'inizio del XVII secolo.
