Bien que l'histoire personnelle de la baby-sitter du portrait Fisher soit inconnue, c'est une œuvre très réussie du célèbre peintre anglo-américain Benjamin West. John Utterson de Fareham, Hampshire, n'était pas un gentleman intitulé, mais était sans doute un homme de son temps réussi, comme en témoigne la qualité de sa robe et le fait même qu'il était assis pour un de Londres.
