Aunque se desconoce la historia personal del tamiz del retrato de Fisher, es un trabajo muy exitoso del famoso pintor angloamericano, Benjamin West. John Utterson de Fareham, Hampshire, no era un caballero titulado, pero sin duda era un hombre exitoso de su tiempo como evidenciado por la calidad de su vestido y por el mismo hecho de que se sentó para uno de Londres
