Bian Wenyu è stato uno studente di Dong Qichang, che ha sostenuto lo studio intenso di specifici vecchi pittori, in particolare Huang Gongwang (1269–1654). Lo stile di Huang ha ispirato i colpi di texture ropy e raggruppamenti di roccia accatastati che Bian ha usato in questa rappresentazione di un rifugio di fiume ai piedi di una montagna.
