Una pergamena con caratteri cinesi incisi audacemente o attribuita a un monaco Zen prominente come Motsurin Jōtō sarebbe stata utilizzata per la visualizzazione in un'alcova durante una cerimonia di tè. Motsurin Jōtō, o Bokusai, era un discepolo stretto del famoso monaco Zen Ikkyū (1394-1481) di Daitokuji. A causa di questa stretta connessione, la calligrafia spazzolata di Motsurin assomiglia molto a quella del suo padrone. Qui ha spazzolato un accoppiato del poeta Tang Bai Juyi (772–846): Le erbe selvatiche si diffondono lungo le pianure. Ogni anno si appassiscono, solo per fiorire di nuovo. —Trasporti John T.
