Bonaventura Peeters il Vecchio era un pittore marittimo fiammingo barocco, incisore, disegnatore e poeta. Tra onde a vento, barche a vela lottano anche se un temporale. Le navi si sforzano in tutte le direzioni, apparentemente disorientate nella tempesta. La fortuna sembra essere dalla loro parte, tuttavia; le nuvole scure si rompono, allontanate dal sole. Un raggio come un riflettore illumina drammaticamente una delle barche verso il retro, come se in un set da palcoscenico.
