Dipinta tra il 1525 e il 1527, l'opera colpisce per l'immensa dolcezza con la quale san Giuseppe tiene il Bambino Gesù, suonato delicatamente con il piede, e per il tenero sguardo di Maria, passando un frutto al marito, come se volesse dargli sostentamento durante il volo per l'Egitto. Nella scena vediamo il giovane San Giovanni Battista, che è identificato dalla sua pelle di cammello, insieme all'Arcangelo Raffaello e Tobias, che è identificato dal pesce, da cui ha estratto il gallo per curare il suo padre
