Hieronymus van Beverningk (1614-90), ambasciatore straordinario olandese, è ricevuto in pubblico segreto dalla regina spagnola Regent Maria-Anna d'Austria, 2 marzo 1671. L'ambasciatore si inginocchia ai piedi della Regina Reggente vestita da badessa e la presenta con una lettera. Dietro il tavolo c'è il cardinale Luis Fernandes de Portocarrero (1635-1709), consigliere dei Reggenti. In primo piano Joanne Le Gillon (1635-1706), moglie di Van Beverningk. Ha lasciato una giovane donna in piedi con un ventilatore. Sullo sfondo attraverso una finestra faccia a un palazzo.
