Daubigny iniziò a esporre regolarmente il suo lavoro al Salon nel 1838, e dai primi anni 1850 ottenne un notevole successo come pittore del paesaggio. Le figure dell'acqua prominente nella sua immagine — in particolare, nei suoi paesaggi fluviali dipinte dal punto di vista del suo studio-barca. Questo dipinto "s flickering pennellata e tavolozza accresciuta si riferisce alle opere degli Impressionisti, la cui influenza su Daubigny è cresciuta dal suo contatto con Pissarro e Monet negli anni 1860 e 1870.
