Carte postale stéréographique de l'Université Howard à la fin du XIXe siècle Charles Warren Woodward Le stéréographe montre l'ancien Main, le premier bâtiment érigé à l'Université Howard. Fondée en 1866 en tant qu'école de théologie, Howard fut agréé comme université un an plus tard. Le corps professoral compte d'importants leaders comme Alain Locke, Dorothy Porter, Franklin Frazier, le Dr W. Montague Cobb et Ernest Everett Just, entre autres. L'ancien Main a été abattu en 1940 pour faire place à la bibliothèque principale actuelle. Lieu : 500 Howard Place, NW, Howard University, Washington, District of Columbia, États-Unis
