Jagd war eine vom König regulierte aristokratische Aktivität, die oft mehrmals pro Woche große Jagdexpeditionen führte. Dieses elegante Picknick mit der Mitte der Jagd stammt von Antoine Watteau's fêtes galantes, aber Teems mit zeitgenössischem Detail, darunter ein Schwarz, wahrscheinlich versklagt, Diener gekleidet in exotisch Kostüm. Die Verve und Frische dieser Ölskizze spiegeln ihren Status als Studie wider, um sich auf ein großes, eng verwandtes Gemälde vorzubereiten, das 1737 im Speisesaal von Louis XV im Château de Fontainebleau installiert wurde.
