Dieses Porträt des jüngeren Bruders von Købke in seiner Seemanns Uniform wurde bald vor der Verlassen des Künstlers Kopenhagen für einen Aufenthalt in Italien gemalt. Es ist eine unzisive Ähnlichkeit, bemerkenswert für seine psychologische Intensität. Købke, der weithin als der größte dänische Maler angesehen wird, der aus der Kopenhagener Akademie der Schönen Künste hervorging, brachte eine unverwechselbare Klarheit und Leuchtkraft in die naturalistische Ästhetik seines Lehrers Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg.
