Bis 1861 wurde das Gemälde Hans Holbein the Younger zugeschrieben. Das Bild, das venezianische Einflüsse zeigt, ist ein Meisterwerk der Renaissance-Malerei in Augsburg. Ein Begleitstück Portrait einer jungen Frau ist auch in der Einsiedelei.
