Monet's Water Lilies serie conteneva circa 250 dipinti, che ha dipinto durante gli ultimi trenta anni della sua vita a casa sua a Giverny, in Francia. Molti dei dipinti sono stati completati mentre Monet era affetto da cataratte, che gli ha dato un tono più rosso alla sua visione, che è rappresentato in alcuni dei suoi dipinti. Ha attraversato due interventi chirurgici nel 1923 per rimuovere le sue cataratte, che molti hanno lasciato gli occhi più sensibili alle lunghezze d'onda ultraviolette, mentre è tornato e riverniciato alcuni dei suoi gigli d'acqua con un tono più blu. I lavori della serie Monet's Water Lilies sono ora ospitati in tutto il mondo, e hanno venduto all'asta per quasi 41 milioni di dollari.
