Monet pintó esta vista del Palazzo Dario, cerca de la desembocadura del Gran Canal, en varias sesiones, probablemente durante su "motivo de troisième" entre las dos y las cuatro de la tarde. El almacén superior y la mitad izquierda de la fachada?ade del Palazzo Barbaro-Wolkoff de al lado se recortan por los bordes del lienzo, un dispositivo compositivo derivado de cortes de madera japoneses. Una góndola marca la línea divisoria entre el palacio y su reflejo. Margaret Davies compró este trabajo en París en 1913.
