Monet dipinse questa veduta del Palazzo Dario, vicino alla foce del Canal Grande, in diverse sessioni, probabilmente durante il suo 'modello di Troisième' tra le due e le quattro del pomeriggio. Il piano superiore e la metà sinistra della facciata del Palazzo Barbaro-Wolkoff accanto sono tagliati dai bordi della tela - un dispositivo compositivo derivato dai tagli di legno giapponesi. Una gondola segna la linea di divisione tra il palazzo e la sua riflessione. Margaret Davies acquistò questo lavoro a Parigi nel 1913.
