Monet è forse il più grande pittore paesaggista impressionista ed è stato particolarmente attratto dalle qualità uniche di luce e colore in paesaggi di neve. Durante l'inverno del 1874-1875, produsse 16 dipinti di effetti neve nella sua città natale di Argenteuil, un sobborgo a nord-ovest di Parigi. In questo esempio, un percorso innevato corre verso un ammasso lontano di case e campanile della chiesa, fornendo la composizione con un senso di profondità. A destra, la luce del sole comincia a sciogliere la neve, mentre un cespuglio di cremisi fornisce un accento di colore. Monet applicato vernice molto rapidamente, in particolare quando la pittura alberi.
