In questo ritratto di un uomo non identificato, Corneille presta particolare attenzione ai dettagli dell'ornamento personale: il colletto di pelliccia, l'anello sul dito dell'indice, e i polsini di lino arruffati convogliati di vernice. Questo primo lavoro, con la relativa sobrietà, riflette le radici dell’artista netherlandish prima di sviluppare uno stile più attenuato nel suo lavoro per i tribunali francesi.
