Dieses Kunstwerk ist Teil einer Gruppe von fünf Pastell. Sie bilden eine humorvolle Geschichte, die eine Gruppe von ausgezeichneten Herren mit einem gesellschaftlichen Abend zeigt, der respektvoll beginnt und allmählich völlig aus der Hand durch Getränk ausgeht. Der Name der Serie „NELRI“ ist eine Komposition der Initialen der fünf lateinischen Titel an den Oberseiten der Rahmen. Hier. Troost arbeitete nicht in Öl, sondern in Gouache (opaker Aquarell mit Gummi arabic) und Pastell (weiche Kreide). Diese Technik war im achtzehnten Jahrhundert sehr beliebt.
